AC or Optional Battery Power: POWER PET doors may be operated in three different power modes

110-Volt AC Wall Outlet Comes StandardPOWER PET doors come standard with a UL approved AC adapter. Plug the adapter into a nearby wall outlet for continuous operation. With dual jacks, the cord can be connected to either the left or right side of the door. |
AC With Optional Battery BackupYou may purchase an optional rechargeable battery for use along with your AC adapter. If your household electricity should ever fail, your POWER PET door will automatically switch over to battery operation. When power is restored, the AC adapter will automatically recharge your battery. |
Full Battery Operation with Optional Charger KitYou may also operate your POWER PET door with the battery only. This eliminates the need for the AC adapter or any electrical power connection. However, you will need to recharge the battery periodically (recharge interval varies depending upon use). In this case, we recommend that you purchase the optional charger kit with 2 backup batteries. With two batteries, you can use one in your POWER PET door and keep the other in the charger. When your door battery runs low, just swap. |

Product Description
Engineered for performance, design, value and extreme reliability, Power Pet doors are motor driven and activated by a tiny ultrasonic collar. Other electronic pet doors merely unlock a hinged panel, requiring your pet to push it open. That's something that a lot of pets don't like to do. Patented Power Pet doors open completely under their own power. They feature a translucent door panel made of a new super-strength, bulletproof resin. When your pet approaches, the air-tight panel quickly and quietly powers upward, disappearing into the stylish housing. Because the panel moves up and down and does not swing out, it can be mounted in hermetically sealed grooves for air-tight closure. This mounting arrangement makes it impossible for an intruder to kick it out. An automatic dead-bolt locking feature adds a higher level of security to your home. The result is the most secure pet door against intruders and stray animals. Your pets are empowered to come and go as they please. Their animal friends are politely asked to stay out. Power Pet doors are completely wind and weather-proof with an air-tight sealing system. Power Pet's directional sensing system is pretty amazing as well. The digitally coded signal emitted from your pet's ultrasonic transmitter collar allows the Power Pet to work almost like magic, opening only when your pet is on a direct approach. 4-way access control lets you select from In Only, Out Only, Full Access or Closed and Locked. Dual range controls let you set independent inside and outside activation distances. Panel size: 12-1/4 by 16-inch for pets up to 100-pound. Operates on AC adapter (included). Optional backup battery (model B12V-1.3) snaps into the battery compartment to keep your Power Pet door functioning in the case of a power outage, or if you prefer to operate solely on battery power. Door is also operated by Humane Contain RX-10 multi-function collar for X-10 dog fence system.

Installation - With a hole saw and a jig saw you can get this done pretty quick. I think it took my neighbor and I about an hour and a half to install this and we did this with the door still in the frame.
I took the outside piece (the smaller one) and centered it so the bottom of the opening was pretty close to my smallest dogs arm pit, put a level on it and traced it out. Used a hole saw for a starter hole for the jig saw (make a couple holes) and cut out the square. Once cut out I used a white waterproof silicone to add an extra barrier of sealant on the inside and outside pieces, this will also help with holding this in place as I have one of those really weird "Thermal" doors where its basically made of PVC and filled with foam so the screws only have about 1/4 inch of PVC to hold onto.
Use - I have a Maltese (Dexter) and a Westie (Spencer), Dexter is a very skiddish dog and did not like to at first, the opening and closing of the door freaked him out and he would run away. There is a manual open button so I would press that and walk outside with a treat and no joke within 1 day they would use the door to go outside with me standing there and asking if they wanted to go outside. (I am still on day 2 of the door so I am not sure if they use it when I am not there but every time I ask if they want to go outside they use the doggy door and come back in) I will update in a week or so.
Quality - You get what you pay for, its a great door. There are control knobs for each sensor so I have the inside sensor set a little lower so they have to be within 2-3 ft of it and the outside one bumped up like 2 notches so it opens once they get on the patio within 4-5 ft of it.
Recommendations - I would highly recommend getting the battery for it, I am ordering one after I leave this review. It plugs in so if the power goes out your dogs cant go outside without you home.
Security - The hole itself on the size I got is pretty small, a child would have a hard time getting through the hole let alone an adult or midget. The collars are "plug and play" so anyone with this type of dog collar could get it open but lets be honest, chances are slim someone would have the collar on them and even if they did the hole is super small they would probably use another point of entry... There are also buttons to enable or disable sensors so you can disable the sensors at night time if the dogs sleep with you if you are worried about security concerns.
Overall - The product is great, I would just recommend having treats on hand and ONLY allowing your pets to use the new doggy door to go outside for a few days, once they get used to it the quality of life for your pet will go through the roof. Just like us they can decide to relieve themselves when they want to.
EDIT : The collars come with enough "Strap" to fit on any size dog, once you install it, cut it to the desired length and then take a lighter to the frayed edge and squish it with your finger tips to keep it from fraying and pulling apart like a sweater...
The dog collars are small and don't seem to bother our dogs at all. The unit comes with one collar and we purchased a 2nd on Amazon also. One minor challenge we have is that if the collar spins at all, the sensor won't line up and the door may not open when the dog walks up to it. We are playing with the sensor adjustments now to see if there is an impact. It confuses the dog when the door won't open, but fortunately, since we have two and they are usually together. The other one will walk up or come back in from outside and open the door.
The unit does not have an adjustment to specify how long the door should stay open once they walk through it. Since we have two dogs, this would be great. I didn't take any stars off for this though because we still really like how it works as-is.
We haven't recognized how long the collar batteries last yet. They are specialty batteries and are not cheap, but we understand why... to keep the sensor small.
We definitely recommend this unit. We had a hard time determining what size to purchase. Our dogs are fairly small. One weights just over 30 pounds, which was the max for the smaller unit. We did some testing with cardboard and determined that the larger unit would be best for our dogs, even though they are small. The size is great. They have plenty of room to run through the door and it is not too large. Sometimes they try to go through it together :-) .
We did a lot of research on all the options available and from what we've reviewed and now what we've experiences... we are very confident that we made the right decision.

I am concerned about the customer service at High Tech Pet, however. One knob was broken off during shipping so I tried calling and emailing High Tech Pet about getting just the knob replaced but the phone number didn't work and I didn't get a response from them by email. Amazon's customer service, on the other hand, is fantastic. They offered to replace the whole door but I was hoping to hear from High Tech Pet about replacing just the knob but they never did get back to me.
THE ONLY THING THAT I WISH COULD BE DIFFERENT IS THE SPEED OF IT OPENING. SOMETIMES THE DOG NEEDS TO RUN OUT TO SCARE SOMETHING (ANIMAL,PERSON) AND THEY CANT GET OUT AS FAST AS THEY HOPED TO.
