FOGELBERG SECOND ALBUM! A CLASSIC!!

FOGELBERG SECOND ALBUM! A CLASSIC!!
This Fogelberg's Japanese mini-lp replica version album is simply a work of art! Very beautifully designed with all the lyrics included and with a sound quality remastered to perfection. This CD present great tracks as " Souvenirs ", " Part of the Plan ", " Changing Horses ", etc. This is by far the best version of this album, the early 1987 Sony US version never was remastered. This Japanese have a great sound quality, great packaging, great songs! A must have in any CD collector's library.

I have every CD he masterfully wrote and sang. He was the best. Buy everything he sung and you'll be happy.

Sometimes one is in the mood for lyricks..sometimes acustic, from the early 70s...just take a peak at who played on this great album.. alone, if you listen to this album twice, it goes into rotation..the vynyl is fine..

I discovered the sweet songwriter when I was a teenager. I'm 64 now, and his music holds up. Sweet voiced. Sounds good.

Absolutely enjoyable listening

This is one of 3 albums by Fogelberg that I'd consider to be a masterpiece, or nearly so (the other two being "Nether Lands" and "Home Free"). I'll agree with those here who note that "Someone's been telling you stories" is relatively weak, although the backing chorus by members of "The Eagles" keep even that song from being a throwaway. Overall this is highly enjoyable acoustic/country/rock/pop - similar in some ways to that of The Eagles, but Dan's expressive voice, lyrics, and melodies actually make it better than most of the Eagles' work.

The production by Joe Walsh is terrific, there's just a touch of "Hotel California" slide-guitar sound, without being overly done. Walsh mainly lets Fogelberg and the other musicians (who are also outstanding) shine in a very natural, real sense; this is not at all overly layered or gimmicked-up. My favorite track here is "As the raven flies", and "Morning sky" is another standout, but all of the songs are strong (save for the above-mentioned "Someone's been..."), and fit very well together.

Getting back to what I easily consider to be Dan's best 3 albums, "Souvenirs" has what I'd consider to be his signature sound, and it's certainly one of his best ever. On the other hand, "Nether Lands" has no weak tracks, flows well, is loaded with incredible lyrics and music - if had had to decide on only one, I suppose it would be my top choice in a very close race. But "Nether Lands" has a different sound than the typical Fogelberg album - quite a bit of lush orchestration and wonderful instrumentation that departs from the standard "country/folk/pop" sound that I associate with Fogelberg. "Souvenirs" has more of a live folk/pop concert sound vs. the lushly beautiful orchestration of "Nether Lands". Dan's first album "Home Free" is very spare and intense; sounds almost as if he were playing all the instruments himself. "Home Free" is a little spotty (many tracks soar with his very best - especially the opening song, others are slightly weak) but is also not to be missed. "Souvenirs" though is to me most representative of DF's very best work; it's a "must have" for even casual fans.

There is a remastered version available as a double disc coupled with Homeward Bound. Would've been nice if they extended it to the single cd version.

Classic Fogelberg hits!

I have always been a huge fan of Dan Fogelberg and this is an album I never really listened to when I spent many hours during my college days listening to "The Innocent Age", "Phoenix" and "Twin Sons.." I bought the CD in conjunction with the guitar lesson DVD teaching how to play some of the songs on the album. I really fell in love with this album after several plays. "Part of the Plan" has always been one of my favorites, but I also like "Illinois", "There's a Place in the World for A Gambler" and "As the Raven Flies". The album is very country/bluegrass. Joe Walsh, who produced it, lends a big hand on guitar. I highly recommend this album to anyone who is a Dan fan who missed his early stuff or if you are looking to get an intro into his music. While I still believe "The Innocent Age" is his seminal album, you should definitely stick with Souvenirs if you want to hear Fogelberg's bluegrass/country roots. Many critics unfortunately branded Dan as sappy because of songs like "Longer", but if you talk to a true Dan fan, they will tell you what a great musician and writer he was. What a shame he was taken away.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great album from the the era of the singer/songwriter
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on July 3, 2018
i owned this album on vinyl years ago and it was one of my favourites, dan fogelberg created music for any mood it’s so nice to hear these songs again and listening to this album took me back to a time I consider to be the golden age of the singer/songwriter,it’s sad to know he’s no longer here as being a reader of all things music,it comes across as him being a very influential musician to lots of modern day singer/songwriters,I’ve enjoyed listening to this album so much that I’m now going to track down as many of his albums as I can to add to my music cd collection,a great worthy edition to anyone’s music collection, highly recommended.

Un album con alcuni brani che ricordano i migliori Crosby,Stills,Nash.
Brani molto belli come ad esempio "As The Raven Flies", "(Someone's Been) Telling You Stories" e la bellissima "There's a Place In The World For a Gambler".
