Had a great collection of bonsai trees for a long time...Then started tending to jade bonsais exclusively...The collection was quite extensive...Only problem was that they required a lot of light all year and it became annoying...Then about ten years ago I bought a small parlor palm cluster and became an instant fan...I bought more palms, and the jades took a back seat...I let the jades die off while diverting my attention to palms completely...I live in Massachusetts, and what's cooler than having a jungle where a jungle shouldn't exist?
Starting to get to the point:
Ok, so I've been growing palm forests for ten years...It took a couple of years to make all of the mistakes and learn from them...At the moment I have a nine year old forest in a ten inch pot, a five year old forest in an eight inch pot, a three year old forest in a six inch pot, and a pair of two year old forests in four inch pots...They were all doing great until this winter when I realized too late that some of them should have been repotted last spring...The growth slowed way down and leaves became extremely pale...Never had them in worse looking condition...
More to the point:
I put these stakes in all of my forests on January 26, 2018 (as directed), one day after I leeched them all...Noticed no changes in my palms from these fertilizer stakes for two months...Why? Two reasons...First is that the forests don't need much water in the winter in Massachusetts since there's very little sunlight...Unfortunately the stakes need regular watering to disperse into the soil...Second is that fertilizer is not a replacement for sun, and the malnourished forests weren't getting much sun either...
A few weeks ago, I finally noticed the difference since the light was returning so they were getting more water which in turn gave them the fertilizer...Now the problem forests are finally a lush green again, and growing well, despite needing repotting...
Random fact:
These stakes are STRONG, which was surprising...I pushed them straight down into hard medium and not one broke...
Two pictures:
- A picture of a stake while one tree in the background is showing off for the camera with flowers
- A picture of the directions and other potentially useful information
FAIRLY CHEAP AND WORTH A SHOT
Good luck !!!
