2000 Civic with ABS - Koyo Japanese Made Bearing
    5 Stars
2000 Civic with ABS - Koyo Japanese Made Bearing
IF YOU HAVE A 96-00 CIVIC WITHOUT ABS, THIS IS NOT the bearing for you. This fit my 2000 EX civic perfectly. The brand is Timken but they are a distributor for their subsidiary brand Koyo, which is a premium Japanese-made bearing. Freezing the bearing made installation a lot easier. Freezing shrinks the metal ever so slightly. Be sure to grease the outside of the bearing before it is frozen to aid with installation.

Installed a pair of these in a 99 Civic EX. Fit perfect and car rolls perfectly. Recommend using a press or special tool to install these. Don’t just smack it in.

I originally tried the WJB (I think that’s it) bearing. It fell apart out of the box. Timken costed more but was way better quality.

Always liked Timken, although spendy, they are good. Only gripe is that no direction was given on which way the bearing installed. One side had a metal ring, other just plastic... 50/50 if I guessed right?!?!
Reviewed in the United States on November 17, 2015
Amazon's parts selector said I needed the Timken 510030, which was NOT THE CORRECT PART for my car, a 1997 Honda Civic LX. Both the I.D. and the O.D. were too big. Unfortunately I waited too long to attempt the installation of the part and I couldn't return it. Then I found out that 510030 is for a Civic with ABS. I installed the correct bearing for my car, a Timken 510015, and the installation seems to have gone smoothly. Again, 510030 is for a 1997 Civic WITH ABS; 510015 is for a 1997 Civic WITHOUT ABS. In the end be sure you're getting the right parts by doing some research before you order. O'Reilley and AutoZone are good cross references, and Amazon usually beats them on price. The Timken website didn't list my car.

    Some suggestions:
1- Have a good snap ring tool on hand. I didn't and ended up using some needle nose pliers that worked but not well. I'm lucky I found the ring after it went flying. Yes, I was wearing safety glasses. If I have to do this job for the other side I'm going to get the GearWrench 2012D. All the bad reviews seem to be old, so I'm willing to overlook them.

2- If you need to cut the inner race off of the hub use a Dremel tool with a cutoff wheel instead of a big grinder. This lets you get a whole lot closer to the flange of the hub and it's easier to be more accurate and carful. It also means that the cut will be pretty much parallel to the centerline of the hub. Then the inner race can be reused as a stop when you press the hub into the new bearing.

Best bearings money can buy. Did the job myself on a 2004 Honda Civic. This will work with ABS. I had a shop press in the bearings as I do not have a press and did not want to take a chance or ruining them. The spindle is easy to get off. If you need help let me know
