Product Description

Ghosts and gags collide in this witches' brew of laughs, with Bob Hope as a Manhattan radio commentator who finds himself marooned on an island of the walking dead! Larry Lawrence (Hope), sought in connection with a murder he did not commit, eludes New York police by hiding in a steamer trunk. Soon the trunk (and Larry) are aboard a ship bound for Cuba, where the trunk's owner, pretty Mary Carter (Paulette Goddard), is sailing to take possession of a recent inheritance: a "haunted" castle. Sensing that Mary is in danger, Larry and his valet Alex (Willie Best) precede her to the island, which is inhabited by a ghost, a zombie and perhaps even a flesh-and-blood fiend. There's romance, comedy and chills as Hope and Goddard contend with earthly and un-earthly foes—and try to keep from ending up as ghosts themselves!

Excellent film avec Bob Hope et Paulette Goddard, mais ne vous faites pas avoir; même si le DVD indique avoir une piste sonore française, il n’y a que les sous-titres qui sont en français

The second of the Bob Hope/Paulette Goddard Supernatural "Old dark House" mysteries following on from their success in "The Cat And The Canary". This one is probably more enjoyable than the earlier vehicle. Goddard's Mary Carter inherits and old mansion on the island of Cuba and despite many offers for her to sell it she refuses and intends to sail to Cuba from New York. Enter Bob Hope's Larry Lawrence, a radio reporter on the run from the Mob, who with his hilarious black manservant Willie Best, joins Mary on the cruise to Cuba and the mansion on Black Island. What do they find there....Murder victims, a ghost and a Zombie.

Picture quality on this REGION 1 DVD is ABSOLUTELY EXCELLENT - PRISTINE BLACK AND WHITE WITH LITTLE GRAIN (especially played back on an upscaled 4k 78" TV it looked great. SEE SCREEN GRABS and the sound is clear and not to hissy either. Certainly a step up from the varying picture quality reports on The Cat and The Canary
