This book contains months and years of experience in its pages allowing the reader to avoid the months and years of trial and error we all potentially face when landscaping our layouts. Fully illustrated, it also includes subtle tips that assure a professional, museum quality result. I found out recently from a local hobby shop that only about a quarter of the model railroader enthusiasts in America actually attempt a working model railroad. Perhaps it is the anxiety over landscaping? If so this will help.

Good information for use of Woodland Scenic products and modeling concepts.

This a useful and informative book, with lots of great information and illustrations that will have you chomping at the bit to get started. But BE WARNED: this book was produced by Woodland Scenic, and everything it advises you to use is one of their products. As a result, it reads like a very lengthy advertisement. Woodland Scenic does produce fine products, but they are not the only game in town, and there are less expensive options in many cases. That said, it is a great step-by-step book on producing train scenery.

Very informative

While I did find some amount of useful information, overall I was a bit disappointed. The book is written solely around the use of Woodland Scenics products. There is nothing about any alternative methods or materials.
There are quite a number of pages at the end devoted to a listing of all their products. Depending on your needs this is either a waste of spave or useful to you.

I have started collecting Christmas cottages, and the one video I found for making landscape setting for my cottages was overpriced and not reviewed well. This book is geared toward model railroading, but the basics on designing scenery will work just as well for Christmas cottages and Halloween houses as well. Could use more photos, which is why I didn't give it five stars. Overall a useful book for those who want to design scenes for their houses.
