Purchase options and add-ons
John, Paul, George & Ringo minutely traces the meteoric rise of the Beatles from 1960 to 1970, with detailed timelines of their day-to-day activities, fascinating photographs (many exceedingly rare), penetrating biographies of everyone associated with the spread of Beatlemania, and contemporary excerpts from Londons influential Daily Mail. This exhaustive record, which closely follows the four young lads as they rose from Liverpool obscurity to become universally acknowledged titans of pop music, is the most comprehensive account of the history of the Beatles ever published.

this book does have those, sure, but it has more. it's got all kinds of old memorabilia of the time period reproduced, i saw stuff i didn't see elsewhere. and pictures i didn't see elsewhere.
this is quite a big book, and although it is an older book, i recommend it as a general beatles book a cut above others like it. there are much better books, but they are probably a lot more money to get. there are older copies of this book quite cheap to get.
Hill's subtitle is a bit misleading. He devotes 60+ pages to the years after the Beatles breakup, taking his coverage to 2006.
In any case, Hill, who has produced a number of Beatles book, does a workmanlike book of relating the rise and fall of the Fab Four. Much of the info Hill presents is old hat to Beatles fans; likewise some of the photos, most of which are black and white. Yet the book is a lively, nostalgic, highly entertaining account of those marvelous times "way back when." I especially enjoyed the various memorabilia items depicted, the helpful monthly timelines, excerpts from the DAILY MAIL, all those great pix and so on.
Whether Hill's book is definitive remains to be seen. It is a nicely done work bulging with photos and info on JPG&R that should appeal to the dedicated fan or someone new to the Beatles. Recommended.
