Why Shaving Oil?

When you want to reduce friction on any surface, you use a lubricant to create less drag. With less razor drag there is less chance of nicks, cuts and rashes. Your beard no matter where it is, is like uncooked pasta. Hard and brittle. The oils soak into the hair which fattens and softens them. Like well cooked pasta this leads to less tensile strength thus allowing the razor to cut more easily. The oils help prevent the rusting and pitting of the blades which will make your blades last longer. In normal shaving soaps, most contain some form of salt which corrodes and rusts the blade. Shave Secret can be used around facial hair for better trim lines as you can see where you are cutting by not covering with soap. Fade lines, hair lines, bikini lines you can trim with confidence.

Directions

Generously wet the area to be shaved.
In a moist palm, massage 3 - 5 drops of Shave Secret.
Massage into the area to be shaved and wait 5 - 10 seconds.
Shave as usual. (Be sure to rinse your razor often).
No need to rinse the shaved area, just towel dry.

Helpful Tips: To get a really close shave, just re-wet the skin and shave again. Use 3-5 drops for additional moisturizing and conditioning of the skin. If you experience any razor drag-add more water, not more Shave Secret. To clean razor, rinse under hot water and tap in the sink. If necessary, you can use a tooth brush to unclog razor. To use as a pre-electric conditioner, apply 1-2 drops, wait a moment and shave as usual.

I use this in the shower after I'm done shaving and washing, but instead of using this to shave I use it as an aftershave. Once I finish showering and before drying off I apply a few drops to my hands and all shaved areas. I let those areas air dry and towel off everything else. I have extremely sensitive skin, but I no longer have issues with razor burn. I love this stuff. A little goes a long way.

I haven't put any kind of blade to my face in over 29 years now. My neck and around my mouth would always get all red and bumpy with ingrown hairs no matter what I tried. I hated the discomfort and the appearance. So since June of 1992 I've only used the trimmer kind of blade on my face to get me down to a 5 o'clock shadow for nearly 3 decades.

But I got tired of that, as did a few girl friends and ex wife, so I happened across something on facebook for this product and thought it was worth giving it a try.

I'm on a few weeks of vacation and not going anywhere, just doing things around the house for new windows and such, so it was the perfect time to give it a shot. If it didn't work, I had plenty of time for my skin to return to normal before I had to go out around people again.

I almost forgot what it is like to have smooth skin. I have been shaving my head for all that time, and the skull never gives me issues, but it's been nearly 3 decades since my face was smooth.

I did just as it said, wet my face quite a bit, then got four drops of this in my palm and worked it in all around my face, unboxed the first actual razor blade I've bought in years, and started cutting away.

And it worked. No discomfort, not a single nick. That was this morning. By now my neck would've already been a red mess of bumps and hives and irritation. Yet not a single bit of discomfort, no bumps, no redness anywhere.

I can't believe that I was actually able to shave for the first time in this long, and that first time did nothing at all to annoy my face.

No doubt, this stuff is real and it does as it claimed. I can finally decide to go smooth faced now if I want.

Excellent but is the price justified?

This product has a lot going for it. First of all, it works. This redhead who scarcely went anywhere without red bumps can finally go swimming without a rash, shaving bumps or even minor injuries caused by shaving products not adequately protecting the skin. Second, it's compact: you can take it anywhere you go as if it were a travel size, but it will still last 2-6 weeks, depending on a variety of factors. It also smells nice and does provide a close shave.
The only reason I rated this product with 4 instead of 5 stars is because of the price. It's advertised as economical, but is it really? Sure, it's a fine price for a "shave lotion" but if one were to read the ingredients and then peruse the essential oil section at their local health food store, they may discover that with something like a $30 investment, they could be stocked in an extremely similar self-mixed oil for something like 3 years (though oils can go rancid, too--please buy small or refrigerate if you decide to do this). That said, the ingredients in this product are not at all expensive (especially in the quantities contained in this tiny bottle). My assessment is that when I buy Shave Secret, I am paying $6 for convenience and $1 for the oils. That's fine--I don't raise meat chickens with a similar argument, either--it's simply not something I would say is a good value.

--Introduction--
I have bought this product several times now and love it to the ends of the earth. I used to use soaps, lathers, shave butters really everything and it might be that those products were no good…but Shave Secret is soooo much better. My usual routine was to shower then step out of the shower and use first some shaving soap and then put overtop of it some shave butter. Now it is difficult to see with all this on my face so sometimes my lines wouldn’t come out the way I wanted them to. And I almost always ended up with nicks and such, I subscribe to dollar shave club so I just blamed the quality of the razors. However on a dare almost I purchased some shave secret and honestly I shower then put a few drops of this on the area I want to shave and that’s it. No other product needed.

--Pros--
-Clear, so you can see where/what you are shaving. Great for detail shaving.
-Smooth but not too smooth, you will feel a slight pull on the razor if you are going against the follicles but honestly it lets you know you are doing it right.
-Actually moisturizes the skin, unlike some harsh soaps it actually leaves your skin feeling refreshed
-Smells wonderful and manly, so you don’t smell like you just shaved with your wives leg crème
-You don’t have to use very much, how else would they be able to get away with giving you such a small bottle?

--Cons--
-Not for shaving off a fully grown beard, great for touching up stubble or a week or two of wild growth.
-Takes some getting used to only using a drop or two on the areas you want to shave. Two on my left cheek, two on my right, and two below my chin; so six drops total and I do my entire face.

--Notes--
I have read other reviews about how this product appears to be grapeseed oil with some scent in it. So on a wild chase I researched and found that grapeseed oil is a great shave foam alternative. It is light, and looks suspiciously the same hue of Shave Secret. On the website they list the ingredients as

“a proprietary blend of base oils (cold pressed seed and nut oils), essential oils, RX grade menthol and natural fragrance oil.”

I suspect the cold pressed seed oil is grapeseed oil, I don’t know about the nut oils or the rest. Now I will say I gave it a whirl and got the same shave with grapeseed oil just without the cool menthol finish that I get after using Shave Secret.

--Conclusion—
I will never be able to think Shave Secret enough for introducing me to the wonderful world of shaving with shave oil. I have bought this several times for myself, my family, my in laws, and even given some out as gifts to people. It is a remarkable product that really made the daily activity of shaving much more pleasant for me.
