Did not compressspring nearly enough
I read most of the reviews before ordering this and it appears there is some confusion on the inner and outer spring ring tools. The inner ring spring tool (LG Electronics 383EER4004A) looks and acts like a pair of bent needle nose pliers where squeezing the handle brings the ends of the piers together and is used to remove the spring clamp that secures the rubber boot to the plastic drum (most inner ring from the front door). The outer ring spring tool (LG Electronics 383EER4001A) has straight grips and is used on the spring clamp that secures the rubber boot to the metal front cabinet (closest to the door). When squeezing the outer spring ring tool the ends of the straight noses "pliers" expand away from each other. This review is for the inner ring spring tool (LG Electronics 383EER4004A) which I gave 1 star to because it did not stretch the spring nearly enough it to allow me to hook the spring to the steel wire/band. I've uploaded a picture that shows the tool as it arrived, and completely compressed. Notice the gap between the lower part of the tool where the spring would normally be and the end of wire hook which is where the loop on the spring needs to hook too. When fully compressed the ends of the tool were more that 3/8 inch further away from each other than they should have been. I was able to use a vise to bend the ends of the pliers closer together and once that was done the tool worked perfectly. At first I thought there were more than 1 inner spring tool, but this was the only one I could find doing a search. I found videos showing how to use this tool and I should not have had to risk breaking these to get them bent so that they would work. I might have just gotten a bad one I'm not sure. I ended up ordering the rubber boot and inner/outer spring tools after seeing others post videos or pictures of alternate methods for removing/installing the spring as I have a feeling after seeing this is such a common issue I will likely get more use out of the tools that I should have to.

1.0 out of 5 stars Crappy tool I was told to purchase by LG cust support - It doesn't work on my front-loading Model
Reviewed in the United States on June 24, 2022
Not sure where to begin. I called LG customer support and asked which tool to use for my LG WM3670 front-loading washer. I received an email saying purchase this overly-priced one; I figured I couldn't go wrong using the company-recommended installation tool on my OEM washer gasket replacement part . . . and that's where i went wrong. THe tool sucks . . . it's about 4mm too short. I called customer service to complain about their recommendation, they sent me to tech support, who sent me back to customer service . . . and round-and-round we go . . . I asked customer service for a manager or higher-up contact and sent an email but no response. . .
I ended up reinstalling the gasket using a youtube user's clever ziptie "redneck" hack (it worked for the outer spring and partially for the inner one). . .

Bottom line . . . the tool is a joke, the inner spring design is a joke and . . . LG support is misnamed . . . How can it be called customer support when customer's aren't supported? May I suggest "LG customer non-support" as a more appropriate naming convention?

1.0 out of 5 stars Tool Failed. Solution below.
Reviewed in the United States on March 30, 2021
Tool worked fine for removing the inner spring coil. But it failed completely with placing it back around the new boot/gasket. The tool would not compress (aka stretch the spring) enough in order to meet the spring loop with the hook. See first photo. The whole point of the tool is to be able to reach the spring without taking off the front panel of the washing machine. Well, I had to take off the front panel.

So here was how I did it: After removing the front panel, I used two sets of pliers to pull the spring loop onto the hook. I wasn't able to achieve this with just the two pliers though. It was too difficult to grip the small parts of the coil. So I used the needle nose pliers to grab the neck of the spring loop, and I hooked the loop on the hook end (the one you're supposed to use the tool with) and pulled the hook with the regular pliers. This was I was able to grip and pull enough to get them together. Just be sure before you start this process the entire coil is in the back groove of the boot where it's supposed to be. As for everything else, I found youtube videos that walked through removal and replacement of the boot/gasket as well as how to remove the front panel.

3.0 out of 5 stars Bending required
Reviewed in Canada on February 16, 2022
Like other reviewers did, I had to bend both sides a bit in order for the spring to extend enough and hook to the other side. The tool is very sturdy so no risks of breaking it but a vise is most likely needed. Even with this done to it, the job was not easy. It required a little bit of convincing/help using a small flat screwdriver to push the spring hook into the loop in the other side. Still less expensive than calling a tech to do it but not something I would recommend if you have little or no patience. I hope never to do this again, my least favorite fix but one of my most rewarding. Wife think now that I can fix anything, dang!

4.0 out of 5 stars Will help safely reassemble the inner spring but you might need to do some work on the tool 1st
Reviewed in Canada on March 20, 2021
I bought this to replace the door seal bellows on an LG WM3800HBA. I did find as others also mentioned that the tool simply cannot close tight enough to disengage or re-engage the spring on the hook of the inner spring! Like, it's not even close - even if you put the loop part on the outside of the hoop you can't stretch the spring at all! I suspect LG has changed the steel ring dimensions on a few models but the change is poorly known about. As others have also noted, a quick trip to a vice to bend the tips closer together gets you a serviceable tool. I took mine from about 4.5 cm apart all the way down to 3-3.3 cm of seperation and even that was barely adequate.
It's a really expensive single purpose tool - but it does make the job a bit safer than some of the hacks I've seen posted.
