My handyman hubby put it together in about 10 mins, box to placement, and said its an easy job. The unit looks exactly like the photos.
BUT-- if you plan to fill it with 100 or so CDs, you will run into problems with stability, balance and weight distribution. Poor design by manufacturer.
The unit has a tendancy to lean forward and will dump its contents with the smallest disturbance. My man fixed this by adding a couple of slender shims to the underside of the base. It is still wobbly mind you, but it works for us.
If the engineers had designed with a slight backward leaning angle of the steel wire shelves, you would not need shims.
As a Grama however, I cannot recommend this type of storage for homes with small children. CD avalanche catastrophe WILL occur.
For these reasons, docked one star.

Purchased two of these. Great looking and space saving. Both were assembled (and loaded with CDs) within 20 minutes. While tool to attach plastic "screws" was uncomfortable to hold while simultaneously applying pressure, it did the job. Color of balls for the top of the stand differed across the two stands (for one stand more of an expresso, for the other a cherry - with the expresso not quite matching the color of the base). Did not attach small rubber "feet" to base in the interest of stability. Entire wood base now in contact with the floor makes for a stable CD tower. Very happy with purchase as item is attractive and will get that job done.

The design looks cool and, once assembled, it does what it's suppose to do: sit in the corner quietly and hold CDs/DVDs. In theory the assembly should be easy but is made overly complicated by poor manufacturing and cheap materials. The screws that hold the frame to the base are made of cheap plastic. Actually, they aren't even screws but more of a screw/nut combination. Whatever one might call them they suck. As most people know, except obviously the cheap you-know-whos that manufactured it, plastic threads strip very, very easily when one tries to screw them in place onto METAL. If that isn't bad enough, these screw/nuts are suppose to be screwed into place by a screwdriver/wrench combination that doesn't give the "screwer" enough torque to get the plastic screw/nuts onto the METAL frame effectively. Plastic screwed onto metal...I repeat...plastic screwed onto metal...by a screwdriver/wrench that doesn't give enough torque. You know where I'm going with this, right? My advice if you do buy this thing, which I don't recommend, is to use four metal nuts and washers, which is what I ended up doing because I stripped 4 of the 5 plastic screw/nuts (so nice that provided one extra, eh?) in the process.

I won't even begin to complain about the decorative wooden balls that go on the top. You know, the ones on which the diameter of the pre drilled holes are at least two sizes smaller than the posts on which they are suppose to fit?

I absolutely love this cd tower - I have a collection of over 300 cd's, and they used to take up half a wall in my living room, on a conventional bookshelf-type cd storage unit. We were forced to do some redecorating due to a flood, so I decided to try these. At first I ordered two, and after I saw how nice they looked, I ordered a third. They are attractive, easy to put together (according to my husband, VERY easy), and you can stick them in any corner. My cd's are now neatly stacked in two corners of my house, unobstrusively.

I stuck the one with my favorite cd's in an unused corner near the stereo, and another in a corner that we didn't use for anything. They are no longer an unwanted centerpiece of the room. The cd's are easy to find, as the titles face the outside of the tower.

The towers appear to be well-made, and due to their placement, my three dogs haven't knocked them over once - that was a concern to me before purchasing them. The wood and the design are attractive, as well.

As my cd collection grows, I will DEFINITELY purchase another one of these - finding space for it is not a problem at all, which I love.

I've also gotten numerous compliments on the towers, and I wouldn't be surprised if other people I know have purchased them.

I can't think of a single negative thing to say about these - they solved my cd storage problem beautifully!
