It works. VERY easy to install. This washer is about 11yrs old. Looks like brand new on the inside except where the teeth got worn away. The hardest part was getting the washer out of the Laundry hole LOL. This is the first washer I have ever tried to fix. It looks to be VERY easy to work on as long as you diagnose the problem properly. (I have beaten this washer to death. Lived in a 3rd-floor apartment at one point and I never drained or braced the drum in all of my moves. Was in storage for 2yrs in Texas which is the only time it wasn't in use. This was after being drug up and down 3 flights of stairs.)

My LG washer model WM0642HW/01 had been making some odd noises for some time. Eventually the tub quit spinning altogether. I could hear some sound from the motor as though it was trying to spin the tub, but it was not moving. I watched a youtube video where this guy had the same problem, and it was very funny because this guy was verbally reproducing the exact sound my washing machine was making. When I watched the video, I knew instantly this was my problem, since my machine was making the same sound. The problem is caused by the plastic teeth on the rotor being stripped out. So when the motor turns, there are no teeth on the rotor for it to grab. Eventually when it gets bad enough, your washer will quit spinning altogether.
This new rotor has metal teeth that shouldn't strip out like the old one did. The part was very well packaged.

The repair is really simple, quick and easy. There are some good videos on youtube that show how to do the repair. Search for "lg rotor replacement". You remove a few screws from the back panel of your washer and the back panel will come off. Then there is only one bolt which holds the rotor onto the washer. When I took mine apart, the single bolt holding the rotor on was really loose.

Before you bolt on the new rotor, be sure and apply some medium strength thread locking compound to the bolt. This will help prevent the bolt from coming lose over time. There are a number of different brands of thread locking compound, below are links to a couple on Amazon:

This new unit is working well. I believe the propensity for this rotor to strip out, relatively soon in the washers life cycle, may be related to a designed in shearing ability. In the event the wash drum is jammed, the center hub splines give way. It would be nice if the center hub alone was available to replace. So wasteful to toss the whole unit due to the stripped center hub. Although, there may be balance issues that need to be made right during assembly at the factory, which would be challenging to do in the home.
LG was worthless in helping me get the part under warrantee. It had to be a big production with time off work and parts to be ordered by a serviceman. I had this part delivered in less than a week and was back up and running.
Along with blue "thread locker" on the cover bolt, I used a few drops of thread locker on the splines to take up the sloppy tolerances. I torqued the bolt down to 20 lbs and let it sit over night.
Don't wash any heavy cotton bath mats that may cause the washer to try and balance the load. I suggest washing like items so they can distribute evenly and hold water at about the same rate.
When your washer attempts to loosen an out of balance wash load, it does quick direction changes, which are murder on the splines.

My elderly father in law just moved closer to us so we could help him out. Hooked up the washer in his new place. Started a load and left. When i had come back the load was not done and the washer was making this horrible ratchet type sound. Tub would barely turn. I am not mechanicaly inept, but i thought i might as well open it up and see if i could at least get an idea what was going on. Opened the back and saw that the motor was turning. Decided i would unplug it and look further into it. Took off the large bolt and could easily see the teeth on this part was stripped. Luckly i was able to find the part here. I played around with different buying options as i wanted to get it as fast as possible. I was willing to pay extra for overnight or 2 day shipping. Amazon was out of stock so i ordered it from HomeAppliancePart. They only offered 1 shipping option. I figured it was better than waiting for a backorder. Shipping was super fast. I ordered it on a holiday weekend and it was on my doorstep tuesday by 10am with standard shipping. Install was easy. New part looks like the teeth are medel, not plastic like the orginal. Fixed the washer and saved my father in law hundreds. Too bad there was no way to just order the inner piece. Kind of a waste to replace the whole thing. After reading the reviews, im glad i didn't try going the 10 year warranty and repair man route. I cant believe Lg would make this part in plastic and not fix it as apart of a warranty. I had a lg oven range die on me in less than a year and getting warranty service is horrible. I dont plan on purchasing any more lg appliances.
