'Bonanza Idaho USA 1876 Eighteen Seventy Six Gold Rush Ghost Town' novelty historic souvenir T-Shirt. Bonanza City ID is a gold rush era ghost town originally established as a placer mining town eight miles up the Yankee Fork of the Salmon River. Saloons, wagon trails and stage lines were built during the gold rush era and Bonanza became the hub of activity. Custer County's first newspaper 'The Yankee Fork Herald' was started here. Fires destroyed much of the town in 1889 and 1897.
