Excerpt from Azadirachta Indica: A Source of Insect Feeding Inhibitors and Growth Regulators
The insect growth - regulating activity of neem is probably due to azadi rachtin, since it is structurally similar to insect ecdysones Robbins et al. (78) showed that ingestion of ecdysone analogs caused inhibition of insect growth and development in the tobacco hornworm. This type of activity is just one added benefit to the feeding inhibition activity possessed by neem.
